Kings of Leon-Frontier City

One of my favorite things is when I "rediscover" great songs that I've had on my iPod for years.  I feel like it's impossible to narrow down one's favorite Kings songs since there are far too many.  I also never realized that this song was a bonus track on the album Only by the Night.

MacKenzie Bourg-Call Me Maybe

Just give it a listen.  Though it isn't hard to outdo Carly Rae Jepsen's version since it is utterly atrocious, this dude makes "Call Me Maybe" a worth while listen.  Also, his voice really reminds me of Brett Dennen.

Mariah Carey-All I Want For Christmas

Tis the season, right?  Plus, if you don't like this song then you are a total Scrooge.

Dave Matthews Band-Mercy

I've often called Dave Matthews Band the "Everybody Loves Raymond" of musical artists, meaning that they are completely average, neither great nor terrible, and I could never really comprehend their massive following.  However, I really like this song.

Incubus-Pardon Me

I liked this song for a while but then I finally listened to the poignant lyrics and it instantly became one of my all time favorites.  Favorite line: "Lately I've been thinking of combustication as I welcome vacation from the planet earth, like gravity, hypocrisy, and the perils of being in 3-D.... while thinking so much differently."

The Spinners-Working My Way Back To You

This song is just great and makes you want to break into a funky dance.  Also, if you don't listen to all of it then at the very least skip to the last 20 seconds or so and check out the absolutely awesome falsetto this dude reaches.

Jay-Z and Kanye-Murder To Excellence

Pure brilliance.  My favorite line by Kanye: "In the past when you picture events like a black tie.  What's the last thing you expect to see... black guys"

Eddie Vedder-Society

This song is from the movie Into The Wild.  I'm just blown away by Eddie Vedder's clairvoyant lyrics which truly embody the real life story portrayed in the film.

City and Colour-The Girl

While this is may sound quite sappy, I would be a flat out liar if I didn't admit that one day I hope to meet a girl that could inspire me to write a song like this.

Beirut-East Harlem

Everything from their sound to their name (the capital of Lebanon in case anyone was wondering) is unique, and I love it.

Sunny Day Real Estate-In Circles

I think these guys are considered one of the early "emo" bands, but they probably condemn that label like most bands in the genre.

Pearl Jam-Yellow Ledbetter

Pearl Jam is one of my favorite bands of all time and this is by far my favorite song of theirs.  Also I just watched 50/50 last night and this plays at the end.  Great movie.

Dum Dum Girls-Lord Knows

Heard this on "New Day Rising" on 89.7.  If you're in Omaha and like indie music, listen to 89.7 during the afternoon on Sundays.

Bob Dylan-Times They Are A Changing

While no one really even looks at this site, this is simply a great song.  For whoever actually looks at this, ENJOY!

Desaparecidos-Backsell

More Desaparecidos.  If you don't listen at the very least please read the lyrics: http://www.songmeanings.net/songs/view/3530822107859437000/.  Excellent interpretation of the music industry currently by Oberst.

Desaparecidos-MariKKKopa

This is the second Desaparecidos song I've posted but I just love their sound.  It's so raw and Conor's singing makes it that much better.  This song is truly amazing if you listen to the lyrics.  Here's a link to the lyrics: http://www.lyricsreg.com/lyrics/desaparecidos/MariKKKopa/.  It's hard to believe this stuff is legal in our country.

Talking Heads-Naive Melody (This Must Be The Place)

My Dad, who I didn't know actually listened to music, showed me this song from the 80s the other day.  It's easy to see how music is cyclical by listening to this.  If I just randomly heard this I would think it were made by a band very recently.

The Envy Corps-Make It Stop

Gotta love Ames bands.  The first half of this song is pretty good but I absolutely love the second half.  The musical composition and harmonies go together so well!

Bright Eyes-First Day of My Life

Easily one of my favorite songs of all time.  Excellent video, too.  Omaha's finest.

Everybody Else-Makeup

One of those songs where I like the verses better than the chorus.  Probably because of the electric bass.

Kanye West-Family Business

No matter what you think of Kanye as a person, there's no doubt that he's a phenomenal artist.

Desaparecidos-Mañana

Going to see these guys next Saturday.  Love Conor Oberst.  Desaparecidos has such a visceral sound, it's great.

The xx-VCR

Can't believe I just started listening to The xx.  They're great.

The Velvet Underground-Sweet Jane

Lou Reed is the man, and this is a timeless summer song.

Mazzy Star-Bells Ring

Awesome 90s band that I just discovered through Pandora.

The Shins-Simple Song

I love this song but I posted this because of the video.  This song is on the radio so many have heard it but it's probably my favorite music video of all time.

Bad Astronaut-Linoleum

Excellent cover of "Linoleum" by NOFX.  I've honestly never heard the original so I feel like this is just a good song rather than a good cover.

The Spring Standards-Here We Go

Saw this band perform on Conan tonight.  Conan has the best artists on his show.
