Led Zeppelin-Trampled Under Foot

Excellent riff.  Can't believe I hadn't heard this before they played it on The Dan Patrick Show.

Silversun Pickups-Kissing Families

God damn it, I love Silversun Pickups.  In my opinion, they are incredibly underrated.

Thin Lizzy-Renegade

Caleb Followill, lead singer of Kings of Leon, said this song inspired their tune "Pickup Truck" which is one of my favorites.  Love this song, too.

Nice & Smooth-Sometimes I Rhyme Slow

"Fast Car" sample.  Also, the first guy kind of sounds like a deeper voiced Eazy-E.

Rodriguez-Jane S Piddy

I bought this album for my mom for Mother's Day and now I just can't stop listening to it.

Brand New-Okay I Believe You, But My Tommy Gun Don't

Aside from the spectacular song title and Home Alone reference, I like the multifaceted nature of this song.  Listen to the whole thing because it changes quite a bit!

Rocky Votolato-Makers

I could only find a live version of this song, but it's really good and I dig it.

Saturday, March 2, 2013

I watched the documentary "Searching for Sugar Man" last night.  It was really tough to decide which song by Rodriguez to put on here, but I will probably end up posting many more.

Kid Cudi-Immortal

This is BRAND NEW.  Just got released about 45 min ago.  In fact, he just tweeted this about the beat: "Ok, so heres what I did. I took one of my favorite bands MGMT's song "Congratulations", put it in reverse, sped it up, and produced over it."   Gotta love the Billy Madison clip at the beginning.  Only 2Pac and Kanye probably beat out Cudi when it comes to my favorite hip-hop artists.

Just came across this song on my iPod and it brought me back to freshman year in college.

The Avett Brothers-Pretty Girl From Michigan

I wish this song were much longer, 2:46 is not enough.

Genesis-Man On The Corner

Not only is it Phriday, but I love the lyrics to this song which are a brilliant interpretation of a homeless man on a street corner.

Desaparecidos-Anonymous & The Left Is Right

The Left is Right:
More greatness from Conor Oberst.  His lyrical genius never ceases to amaze me, and of course, I love its perfect combination with the visceral Desaparecidos' sound.

Southside Johnny & The Asbury Jukes-I Don't Want to Go Home

My uncle showed me this guy when I was in high school.  Great "New Jersey sound" like Springsteen.

Band of Horses-I Go To The Barn Because I Like The

I admit that my musical tastes are outrageously capricious.  However, Band of Horses is one of my favorite bands ever and this is my favorite song of theirs.

The Doors-Light My Fire

I watched the movie The Doors the other night and it was great.  Val Kilmer looks exactly like Jim Morrison.  If you haven't seen it, I would definitely suggest it.

Dexter Freebish-Leaving Town

There are some outstanding late 90s/early 2000s styles in this video.  I especially like the singer's hair gelled, spiked frosted tips.  The songs pretty great, too.

The National-Fake Empire

The singer's deep, baritone voice fits so perfectly with the melancholy nature of the music.

Royce da 5'9" - Shake This

The beat sounds like a Jay-Z track and goes great with Royce's raw intensity.

Bright Eyes-Lua

I really love the lyrics to this song and how it shows the dichotomy between the way we act when "out" at night and then the morning/days after.

Dire Straits-Romeo and Juliet

I originally heard The Killers' version of this song and didn't realize it was a cover.  I kind of like this one better; though, it is hard to go against The Killers.
